Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers work to build a thriving school community and raise funds to support our children's education. There are multiple ways to get involved, many requiring very little time. Below we've outlined some of our volunteer needs for the 2023–2024 school year.  For specific events, SignUpGenius links will be sent out via the weekly the newsletter and classroom emails.

Getting involved is easy! Just let us know what you're interested in doing by contacting the event coordinator (listed below).  If you do not receive a response within 5 days, please contact Rebecca Sprenger at president@oceanview-pta.org. 

Room Parent Volunteers

Room parents are the main line of communication between their classroom’s parents/guardians and the Ocean View PTA.  Primarily, this position involves sending out emails to the class a few times a month, and organizing class gifts before the holidays and at the end of the year.  We need one room parent per classroom.  For more information, please contact May Beckhusen at msaeteurn00@gmail.com

Fall Festival (October 21st, 2023)

Ocean View's biggest fundraiser of the year is the Fall Festival and Walk-a-thon.  It includes carnival games, arts and crafts, a pumpkin patch, a bouncy house, and more!  It also requires a large group of volunteers to make it happen.  Please watch for the SignUpGenius going out in late September. Otter Pop Volunteers (Wednesdays, 1:20–2:20pm)

We need a group of volunteers to help run a student favorite: Otter Pop Wednesdays! Time commitment: 1:20–2:20pm, Wednesdays, at Ocean View Elementary School. It's a great way to raise money for Ocean View, get to know people in our community, and do something for the students that they love.  Please contact the Otter Pop coordinator, Terry Georgeson (tgeorgeson21@gmail.com), to volunteer.

Sing-Along Volunteers (Wednesday 8:30-10:30)

Do you play an instrument? We would love to have you join our Sing-Along leader Marilyn Merlino at our school sing-along assemblies! You are welcome to join for as many dates as you are available!  For more information, please contact Ms Merlino at marilynmerlino@sbcglobal.net

Library Volunteers

Our fabulous and hard working librarian is looking for volunteers who have an hour a week to spend in the library helping students check out books and restocking shelves.  For more information, please contact Michelle Millard-Naylor at mmillard-naylor@ausdk12.org 

Memory Book Volunteers

Every year our PTA puts together a memory book for Ocean View students and faculty. We need parent volunteers to help our Memory Book Coordinator create this book. Much of the work can be done on your own time. We need parents to collect photographs, plan and design page spreads, solicit student artwork, make flyers to advertise the book, and help sell the book at the year's end. It's a fun and rewarding project, and especially a wonderful gift for our students.  For more information, please contact Albert Reinhardt at finance@oceanview-pta.org
