We had a great turnout of families for our Mindfulness parent night on Thursday. These parents and students, got an opportunity to learn about mindfulness and we even experienced a mindful sit and mindful listening. Please ask your student to share their experiences with mindfulness with you and feel free to reach out to me with any questions or feedback about our mindfulness programming.

We also had a wonderful Open House Night. Teachers were excited to connect with you and show off all the work your children have done this year and we hope you enjoyed seeing all the wonderful learning that has transpired. The next few weeks will be filled with more fun events and activities and we look forward to finishing the year strong.

What a beautiful week we had with warm weather and sunshine.  It was a perfect way to welcome your students back from Spring Break.  Recently, we have had a number of classrooms attending field trips to museums, recycling centers and special events.  Being outside the classroom to learn and have new experiences are great ways for students to grow and learn together. There are only 7 more weeks of school, and we are looking forward to the upcoming events and activities on the horizon for all of your students.

The AUSD Student Achievement Committee (SAC) is launching a Listening Campaign to hear from the community. The SAC wants to better understand what factors contribute to student’s learning and well-being and how the district can better support students and families. Consistent with research broadly, there is an achievement gap at AUSD - some groups of students are performing lower than other groups of students. These groups include our Black, Latino, special education, and English Language Learning (ELL) students. The SAC believes that the best way to support these students is to hear from their families directly about the challenges that exist and what resources have been helpful. Furthermore, the SAC values the voices of all families, especially those that are often unheard. Therefore the Listening Campaign will be running focus groups at different days, times, locations (different school sites, zoom), and languages so that all caregivers can attend and share their experiences.
