Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers work to build a thriving school community and raise funds to support our children's education. There are multiple ways to get involved, many requiring very little time. Below we've outlined our volunteer needs for the 2022–2023 school year.

Getting involved is easy! Just let us know what you're interested in doing by filling out this form, or by sending us a quick email at president@oceanview-pta.org

Otter Pop Volunteers (Wednesdays, 1:20–2:20pm)

We need a group of volunteers to help our beloved Ms. G (former OV Principal) run a student favorite: Otter Pop Wednesdays! Time commitment: 1:20–2:20pm, Wednesdays, at Ocean View Elementary School. It's a great way to raise money for Ocean View, get to know people in our community, and do something for the students that they love.

Sing-Along Volunteers (occasional Wednesday morning)

Do you play an instrument? We would love to have you join our Sing-Along leader Marilyn Merlino at our school sing-along assemblies! These are usually held on Wednesdays, 8:45–9:45am. If that is a time slot that works for you, please sign up, and Marilyn will be in touch!

Library Volunteers

Our fabulous and hard working librarian, Mr. Pedersen, is looking for volunteers who have an hour a week to spend in the library helping students check out books and restocking shelves. If you have any questions or if you already know you want to volunteer, please contact him directly at rpedersen@ausdk12.org or sign up here.

Memory Book Volunteers

Every year our PTA puts together a memory book for Ocean View students and faculty. We need parent volunteers to help our Memory Book Coordinator, Megan Gadsby, create this book. Much of the work can be done on your own time. We need parents to collect photographs, plan and design page spreads, solicit student artwork, make flyers to advertise the book, and help sell the book at the year's end. It's a fun and rewarding project, and especially a wonderful gift for our students. Sign up here.

 Teacher Appreciation Committee

This committee, headed by Christina Freschl, works to show Ocean View faculty and staff lots of love and gratitude! Their main focus is Teacher Appreciation Week (May 1–5, 2023), but they also organize smaller events to support and thank faculty and staff throughout the year. Volunteers are welcome to participate however they can--whether that involves planning events, making posters to celebrate faculty, or baking up a sweet treat for Teacher Appreciation Week––the possibilities are endless! Sign up here.

5th Grade Promotion Volunteers

Traditionally, 4th-grade parents organize events to celebrate the graduating 5th-grade students, but all parents are welcome to get involved! In the past, parent volunteers have planned exciting field trips or field days for the fifth graders, pizza parties, refreshments for the graduation ceremony, yard signs, and more. Sign up here.

Fundraising Volunteers

One of the most important things our PTA does is raise money to fund a variety of essential programs that enrich the education and wellbeing of our students. Our fundraising volunteers, working with our Fundraising Chairperson Jackie Wong, organize campaigns and activities that help us raise money (beyond the Fall Festival). In the past, activities have included movie nights, sock hops, and the OV Talent Show. Campaigns have included our annual 100-a-thon, virtual fundraising platforms like Double Good Popcorn, partnerships with local businesses and sports teams (A's, Warriors), and more. Sign up here.
