Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers work to build a thriving school community and raise funds to support our children's education. There are multiple ways to get involved, many requiring very little time. Below we've outlined some of our volunteer needs for the 2025–2026 school year.  

Getting involved is easy! Just let us know what you're interested in doing by contacting the event coordinator (listed below). For day-of help, SignUpGenius links will be sent out via the weekly the newsletter and classroom emails.

Movie Nights (April 24 and May 29)

We need your help to make our upcoming Community Engagement Movie Nights a success! Whether you can join us for one date or both, we’d love to have you.

Otter Pop (Wednesdays, 1:20 - 2:35)

Otter Pop Wednesdays are a student favorite, but we will not be able to sell otter pops and ice cream without a Coordinator and at least 2 parent volunteers.  The Otter Pop Coordinator position entails going to Costco to purchase items to sell (paid for by the PTA) and coordinating volunteers to work the sales windows every Wednesday from 1:20 - 2:35.  To sign up, please contact president@oceanview-pta.org.

Library

We love volunteers in the Ocean View Library, and they are key to keeping things running smoothly!

Volunteer tasks include:

• Providing Friday lunchtime support from Noon-1:05 pm with arts, crafts, origami, etc.
• Helping students find books
• Checking in books
• Checking out books
• Reshelving books

If you would like to volunteer, please visit the AUSD Volunteer Information Page, complete the Volunteer I form, turn it in to the School Office, and send our teacher librarian, Ms. Michelle, a message via Parent Square or email (mmillard-naylor@ausdk12.org ). Please include the following information:

• Your name and how you would like to be contacted
• Your child’s name and their teacher
• Would you prefer to volunteer on Fridays from 12-1:05 pm, or during your child’s class library visit

Memory Book

Every year our PTA works with Ocean View staff to put together a memory book for Ocean View students and faculty. We are in need of parent volunteers to help our Memory Book Coordinator create this book. We need parents who are willing to help design page spreads, make flyers to advertise the book, and help sell the book at the end of the year. It's a fun and rewarding project, and it is a wonderful gift for our students.  For more information, please contact Bridgette Banales at bbanales@ausdk12.org.

Sing-Along (monthly 8:35-8:50am)

Do you play an instrument? We would love to have you join our Sing-Along leader Marilyn Merlino at our school sing-along assemblies! You are welcome to join for as many dates as you are available, and Ms Merlino is willing to work with any parents who are able to volunteer and practice the songs with them.  For more information, please contact Ms Merlino at marilynmerlino@sbcglobal.net 

Room Parent

Room parents are the main line of communication between their classroom’s parents/guardians and the Ocean View PTA.  Primarily, this position involves sending out emails to the class a few times a month, and organizing class gifts before the holidays and at the end of the year.  We need 1-2 room parents per classroom.  For more information, please email Jasmine Flores-Arias at jafloresarias@ausdk12.org.
